Life Of A College Baller: Justin Sears Reflection On His Freshman Year At Yale

What’s up people? I have been home for a few weeks, and everyone has been asking about my first year away at school.  I have had some time to reflect, so I’ll try to give everyone a brief idea of my first year at Yale.

I had many firsts for my 10 stay month at Yale, like attending ridiculous theme parties (Still not feeling country music), having a roommate from India, being introduced to the competitive game of corn hole, and even the exotic foods the dining hall served to accommodate the international students.  These are some of the few things that stick out in my mind when I think about the hectic, and fast paced first year I had.

The first few weeks were a tough transition period, as I had to adjust to College culture while balancing my time with preseason Basketball workouts.  This was stressful because my ability to locate buildings and my time management skills were nonexistent.  I lived life on the edge as I arrived to meetings and workouts with little to no time to spare.  Weight-room workouts were not my favorite either, as I arrived on campus weighing 190 lbs. soaking wet and probably could give you 12 pushups on a good day (Tough having long arms).  I even routinely got locked out my room since I never had my key.  I was the typical freshman who had no clue what was going on and needed guidance.

With help from my teammates, an alarm clock app on my phone, and a lanyard to hold my key, I became better equipped to handle basketball at the College level and the rigors of being a student at an Ivy League school.  On the academic side, I remember receiving a C on my first college test but managed to get a final grade of an A on the course as I developed better study habits. Weight lifting and my steady diet of hamburgers, fries, and pizza from the dining hall proved beneficial as well as I gained 25 lbs. My play on the court improved as I gained confidence and grew accustomed to the physicality and speed of the college game.  However, I still managed to have freshman moments during the season, like the time I forgot to pack my shoes for an away game or the many times I screwed up a set play Coach Jones drew during a timeout. (My bad Coach)

Despite the many rookie mistakes I made, my freshman year has been one of the best years of my life.  Traveling with my teammates, playing on National TV and even the simple spring days teaching a friend how to throw a football highlight my first year at Yale.  I am glad I have been afforded the opportunity to study at a world-class university such as this, and I am excited for my next 3 years. Hope I can continue to fill you in on the happenings at Yale.  Thanks for reading and Roll Dawgs.

Bryce Aiken Of Pope John XXIII Is The Most Exciting Little Man Not Named Aquille Carr In The Northeast! - Freshmen Year Highlights

Standing at 4 feet and 18 inches or so Bryce Aiken has one of the best handles for his height. Perhaps the shortest and youngest to start on varsity basketball in the tri-state as a freshmen. Giving all normal humans a silver lining of hope that anyone can play regardless of height. Too exciting to ignore. Here is a sample size of the little guy Bryce Aiken in his freshmen year for Pope John XXIII.

Syracuse Incoming Combo Forward Tyler Roberson Of Roselle Catholic Senior Year Highlights

One of the two incoming Tylers from the state of New Jersey heading to Syracuse. This one being Tyler Roberson. The other being Tyler Ennis. Tyler Roberson doesn't have much fan fare or crazy hype coming in compared to the other Tyler Ennis however Tyler Roberson is very good. Long for a small forward yet thin for a power forward. Good body language. Excellent rebounder and blocker for his weight class. Developing technical skills on the mid-range game - face up and behind the back. Runs the floor extremely well as a trailer and ahead of the pack. More of a silent leader not talkative on the floor though that must evolve as he grows. And do need to call for the ball a bit more on the low blocks. Crashing the paint is where he will find success on defense. Mid range to the rim is his calling on the offense. Beyond the arc needs a few years of fine tuning. Here is a sample size of Tyler Roberson's game from his senior year at Roselle Catholic High School.

Arkansas Bound Moses Kingsley Huntington Prep Highlights - Top Shot Blocker Not Named Nerlens Noel

It's a stretch to say incoming Arkansas Razorbacks' freshmen Moses Kingsley will be a better shot blocker than Nerlens Noel as of now. Time will tell as with everything. Playing on a loaded Huntington Prep team which featured Andrew Wiggins, Moses Kingsley established the post play offensively and defensively for his team. Excellent anticipation when the ball is in the air. Moses Kingsley will be a player to look out for next few years. One thing is for sure he is higher than the ESPN 45th ranking given to him. He is better than a few forwards on that list. Here is Moses Kingsley's senior year highlights.
